Syngenera has signed an agreement to join Amadeus Next, the leading travel technology community in Asia Pacific. Syngenera will be developing an enterprise application for the aviation industry that addresses the expected growth in demand for both carbon offsets and sustainable jet fuel, while supporting airline contributions to the Sustainable Development Goals.
The Carbon Offsetting and Reduction Scheme for International Aviation (CORSIA) is set to commence with voluntary Pilot and First phases from 2021-2026, after which carbon offset and sustainable jet fuel requirements for international civil aviation will become mandatory. A total of 69 nations have now volunteered to participate in the Pilot and First phases of CORSIA. Syngenera estimates that CORSIA requirements will account for a substantial component of the growth in demand for carbon offsets and sustainable jet fuel for the aviation industry post 2020.
It is important to note that CORSIA has neither endorsed nor prohibited specific offset types. A technical committee has been established to decide on offset criteria and specific offset types. It is anticipated that these offsets will generate significant funding to help conserve the world’s forests and reforest degraded land.
